A subtle type of punk that brings you a warm, cozy feeling--well, as warm and cozy as punk can get.
So every few days I decide to share with you a selection of three MP3s that have either made an impact in my life or amaze me how different these artists are. Next week will be dedicated mainly to requests, but today it's all about three bands that remind me of Warped Tour, summer and friendships that almost slipped away.
This band isn't what the typical "punk rocker" would call "punk rock." But then again, punk rock is about rebellion and being different. This song has a sort of pop fuse in it, but it's definitley not a main-stream "pop-punk," cliche song. "Aside" is about doing things you had promised you would have never done and generally feeling like you've lost it all-but not in an emo sense... It's a nice find from the Hopeless Records samplers that you can find for cheap almost anywhere.
"Aside" - The Weakerthans (Website, Lyrics)
Last year at Warped Tour, my best friend Lilly and I were walking to see the Matches' set and then hopefully interview them afterward (which fell through, we left early to watch Tiger Army), but as The Matches were preparing their stage, there was a strange band playing off the side. The members were dressed in astronaut's clothes, or somewhat similar. Their music was eery, but funny. It was a sort of "what the fuck am I seeing" moment. Lilly and I couldn't help but bounce along for the song that we witnessed. Since, I haven't really listened to this band much, but it still puts a smile on my face everytime I see this band's name or hear one of their unique songs.
"Mission" - The Phenomenauts (Website, Lyrics)
I used to pop this CD into my radio when I carried it out on wobbly legs to go rollerblade in my garage. The tunes on it would always keep me upbeat and laughing as I sang along. When I was down, there were a few particular songs that would bring me right back up as I skated my way through circles of grease and random cats that would jump infront of me (I still apologize for running over their tails). So, I was a poor rollerblader, but the ramp that I skated on was my safe zone for a few months last year, too bad it's gone now, and this song kept me thinking that maybe people do suck, but who really cares?
"Bring Me Down" - Useless ID (Website, Lyrics)
All songs for now on will be in MP3 format. :) Request any songs you want to hear. I have two requests already.
