I've become addicted to vinyls and have had some issues with my friends so I've avoided them (they're online, no one calls for visits). But now I have fixed it so I can listen to vinyls (but unfortunatley not rip them onto my computer) and surf the internet at the same time efficiently. And in appreciation for my favourite type of LP--musicals--here are some of my favourite songs from a few musicals (restricted to movies, the only ones I have on CD...) that I adore most. (I'm skipping the websites this time, sorry if you're a fan of that feature.)

Grease is definitley the word. From the blonde wigs that are adorned during Rizz's mockery of the main female character Sandy, Frenchy's pink hair after flunking out of beauty school and Danny being dumped at the drive in for his lack of chivalry... this movie is as hilarious as your grandmother's underwear hanging on the line--and to some, equally embarassing (to admit to liking).

"Beauty School Dropout" - Frankie Avalon (Lyrics)
"Look at Me, I'm Sandra Dee" - Stockard Channing (Lyrics)

A love story for the years. "Far out places, daring swordfights, magic spells, a prince in disguise..." Or at least three of the four. Here is one of my favourite Disney versions of a love story--one with the most obstacles and proof that love can shatter any of those stupid conventional ideas from society that only the beautiful deserve love. Beauty and the Beast.

"Belle" (Lyrics)
"Something There" (Lyrics)

Death in the family--because of a twisted uncle, being banished from your own land and a love that you refuse to admit exists because of arrogance. Doesn't sound much like another Disney movie does it? It's one of the highest grossing Disney movies ever, The Lion King.

"Be Prepared" - Jeremy Irons (Lyrics)
"I Just Can't Wait to be King" - Jason Weaver (Lyrics)

A book and movie that have recently been rejuvenated and brought back to the big screen and public lime light with the assistance of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp (along wth a nice cast), the Chocolate Factory has never been so loved. Here we go with the posts... Requested MP3s coming next week, I have to find them again. I went through the MP3s on my PC and absent mindedly deleted them.

So it was 1999, I believe, when I fell in love with chick rock and ska (mainly through two of my favourite movies at the time). (Which faded a few years later with the Backstreet Boys and pop acts of the like.) I was completely enthrawled in everything that was Save Ferris, Letters to Cleo, No Doubt, The Donnas... and then the Ten Things I Hate About You soundtrack fueled that flame for a while. Here are a few tracks from that CD that still make me want to dance around infront of my mirror, with a hairbrush as a microphone and violently shaking to the music (my idea of a proper dancing technique for chick rock, of course)...

"I Know" - Save Ferris (Website, Lyrics)

"Cruel to be Kind" - Letters to Cleo (Website, Lyrics)*

"...Not Forever" - Tsunami Bomb (Website, Lyrics)

*I didn't rip this MP3.

And to keep you all happy, here are two random quotes from two of the greatest teen movies ever that support the idea of chick rock in some manner, ha...

"Prince charming is a dick, bring on the frogs." - Nicole, Drive Me Crazy

"All right here's this... Next week will be dedicated mainly to requests, but today it's all about three bands that remind me of Warped Tour, summer and friendships that almost slipped away.

This band isn't what the typical "punk rocker" would call "punk rock." But then again, punk rock is about rebellion and being different. This song has a sort of pop fuse in it, but it's definitley not a main-stream "pop-punk," cliche song. "Aside" is about doing things you had promised you would have never done and generally feeling like you've lost it all-but not in an emo sense... It's a nice find from the Hopeless Records samplers that you can find for cheap almost anywhere.

"Aside" - The Weakerthans (Website, Lyrics)

Last year at Warped Tour, my best friend Lilly and I were walking to see the Matches' set and then hopefully interview them afterward (which fell through, we left early to watch Tiger Army), but as The Matches were preparing their stage, there was a strange band playing off the side. The members were dressed in astronaut's clothes, or somewhat similar. Their music was eery, but funny. It was a sort of "what the fuck am I seeing" moment. Lilly and I couldn't help but bounce along for the song that we witnessed. Since, I haven't really listened to this band much, but it still puts a smile on my face everytime I see this band's name or hear one of their unique songs.

"Mission" - The Phenomenauts (Website, <strike>Lyrics</strike>)

I used to pop this CD into my radio when I carried it out on wobbly legs to go rollerblade in my garage. The tunes on it would always keep me upbeat and laughing as I sang along. When I was down, there were a few particular songs that would bring me right back up as I skated my way through circles of grease and random cats that would jump infront of me (I still apologize for running over their tails). So, I was a poor rollerblader, but the ramp that I skated on was my safe zone for a few months last year, too bad it's gone now, and this song kept me thinking that maybe people do suck, but who really cares?

"Bring Me Down" - Useless ID (Website, Lyrics)

All songs for now on will be in MP3 format. :) Request any songs you want to hear. Last year when I watched their set from a distance, I was still heavily effected by it. The show was grand. My friend Lilly fell head over heels in love with their moog-rock style and has been a huge fan since, just from hearing the two or three live songs that we were able to watch. Here is a preview of what you might hear if you watch this band live, but an MP3 is a well under-stated form of their amazing performances.

Capital H" - Motion City Soundtrack (Website, Lyrics)

Not much to say about this track, except for that this one of the hardcore bands that I love most. I didn't even know much about them until I won several contests from Equal Vision records last fall and discovered this band. In one contest I won a CD of them live and fell into "heart" with it. So here is your peak into the blank-core that is Fear Before the March of Flames...

"Whiskey is Alright in it's Place, But it's Place is in Hell" - Fear Before the March of Flames (Website, Lyrics)

In spite of their recent Spiderman 2 fame, Dashboard Confessional was once a cozy little not-so-mainstream emo band. Chris Carrabba's music wasn't filled with pop-infused hooks and it was sketchy at most. However, it was what many loved. What gave MTV the idea to do an Unplugged set with them (which then set them into fame originally in the emo craze a few years ago, before it faded into pop-punk). Personally, I find his voice at it's best when he performs his older tracks live. If you don't already own this CD or haven't heard Dashboard Confessional live, I'd suggest downloading this track, which is a personal favourite.

"The Places You Have Come to Fear the Most" - Dashboard Confessional (Website, Lyrics)
Your newest weekly heart attack.

I just couldn't stay away...

This CD was quite a nice treat while waiting for a delicious pop-punk band's next release, which was only recently debuted. It features all acoustic songs, of which only one was previously released. Make Yourself at Home also has live videos of the band performing songs that were to be released on their newest album... This song gives me great memories and makes me remember that things can always be better when you think of the ones you care for most... no matter who they are. So if you like the Starting Line's pop-punk style or not, acoustic is always a nice change for a band and is hard to disagree with... Here is my choice pick off of their 2003 acoustic EP release, Make Yourself at Home.

"Lasting Impressions" - The Starting Line (Website, Lyrics)

Another random pop-punk song. This time, it's from a classic band that is hard not to love. This song is basically mindless, but it's fun nonetheless. All about complications and confusions of the teenage mind. Politics, politics... That's all it's about. Why should you care, anyway? An anthem for any "rebellious" teen... Or any MXPX fan who has the power to withstand the wait for new music by them, for the label war, for the strange collaborations on their last album or the lack of powerful lyrics in their older music...

"Teenage Politics" - MxPx (Website, Lyrics)

Soulful. Powerful. Beautiful. Three words that only but sum up the wonder that is this queen of music. She's been around for years and is still considered one of the greatest recording artists of all time. Provided she may have fallen into a trend that many artist tend to nowadays (lipsynching, but I believe it's only due to age and deterioration of energy of some sort), she is still a great artist and a model for generations to come. She is the symbol that looks should not matter whatsoever in the music business, any size is beautiful, and skinny white blondes are not the only women capable of holding a recording contract. In one of her most powerful songs ever about being used and moving on... Aretha Franklin's "Chain of Fools."

"Chain of Fools" - Aretha Franklin (Website, Lyrics)

I do hope that you enjoyed today's edition of the blog. I think that I'm going to start hosting on rapidshare or something. Which do you prefer: YouSendIt or RapidShare? Should I do away with the reviews and just post songs or...? Any suggestions?
Robert, I'm going to post your request next time. How many of you still worship it? Whenever I was around eight years old this movie was released and I watched it with my brother in the theater. I bought the soundtrack a few years later because I could never find it back whenever the movie was released. I then discovered my love for Letters to Cleo. I'd always adored the music that was played as the background tracks on the movie, and I'd finally found a face to the music. I swiftly found their album Wholesale Meat and Fish (which is one of the few albums that had "dirty" cover art that I owned at the time), and fell in love further. So I extend my love to you today, listen to the Letters to Cleo that I love.

"Pizza Cutter" - Letters to Cleo (Website; Lyrics)

I suppose I chose this song out of inspiration (well, what lack thereof) from American Idol last night. What do you mean, you might ask? Well, aside from the major lack of talent on the show in the past few years and the wrong contestants winning every year since the first, there was a decent performance that was overlooked last night. It was by Bo Bice and Led Zeppelin, it was the only one that didn't manage to make my ears well up with blood. Even my metal head friend, Robert, agrees (his sister and parents watch it every episode, which is the same that I can say for my own parents). I may even hate the song that they performed, but I can never deny a good performance no matter who it is by. So in honour of one of the guests on American Idol last night, here is a song by Led Zeppelin, one of the very few songs by them that I enjoy--not that I'm saying they aren't a good band, they just don't venture into my musical taste that often.

"Immigrant Song" - Led Zeppelin (Website, Lyrics)

In my freshman year, briefly before the pop-punk frenzy burst into full force, I discovered an EP at my local record store after my friend Katie had been talking nonstop about this band. So I bought the CD and listened to it on repeat for months. Then, out of nowhere, the Yellowcard frenzy had been set onfire. There were teenyboppers everywhere screaming for that poor Ryan Key. I hadn't even known they had released a new CD in years. I had only had their Underdog EP and One for the Kids. I bought their new CD to be let down into dissapointment, they no longer had their unpolished rough underground pop-punk sound, but instead a mainstream collection of hooks and made for radio lyrics. However, I stayed loyal to them. I'm still a minor fan of the new, but a major fan of the old. So here is "vintage" Yellowcard from their Underdog EP for all to hear.

"Avondale" - Yellowcard (Website, Lyrics)

I apologize for the fact that I do believe all songs are in .mp4 sound format. I will make sure the rest are in .MP3 or .WMA format from now on. If you want to request songs, just leave a comment.
ALSO! From the quivering of Conor Oberst's vocals, to the melodramatic attitude of the lyrics and the catchy chorus this song has you enraptured in everything it is from beginning to end.

"Lover I Dont Have to Love" - Bright Eyes (Website; Lyrics)

___

A nice pop-punk song to get caught in your head and drive you insane. This band was introduced to me a few years ago, and quite honestly I never cared for them until around two months ago when my brother presented me a mix CD that had songs on it that weren't titled or anything so I couldn't have a prejudged impression of a band by their name, which is something I tend to do occasionally. I must thank my brother for the wonderful gift that was Saves the Day.

"Through Being Cool" - Saves the Day (Website; Lyrics)

___

A band that I fell in love with the summer before my freshman year. It was a year of changes in not only my personality but my musical taste. I stumbled upon a Drive-Thru Records DVD in our area Hot Topic (yes, I shop there on occasion, so shoot me--it's not like I'm dressed in their clothes from head to toe, just for music, band shirts & a pin or two at times) and picked it up. I went home and discovered I already knew over half of the bands on there and then I found them. The Early November... I thank God every night in my prayers for Arthur Enders (ACE) and that band, they helped me through so much in my freshman year... and helped me regain sanity when I thought I might unleash an evil bitch-mode attack as most females frequently do. So in my deepest gratitude, I present to you a song from TEN.

"All We Ever Needed" - The Early November (Website; Lyrics)

Your newest weekly heart attack.

Stage Fright... what a wonderful feeling

So this is the world of Sarah Jeannette. I will share with you my passion--music. I would like to introduce you to bands that I enjoy listening to.
The MP3s I will post are merely for previewing purposes. The music may vary from emo to hardcore, punk, indie or R&B... whatever I'm listening to at that moment. Also, you may request, but don't be offended if I don't post the song you want to hear.
(FYI: My favourite bands include underOATH, Bright Eyes, Azure Ray, The White Stripes, The Goo Goo Dolls, Frank Sinatra, The Supremes, The Ramones, and various other artists...)
I'm only going to use MP3s ripped off CDs I own (usually). I'd prefer not to steal other MP3 blogs (it makes the blogs dull and monotonous), but if I see a song that I don't own, but really feel the need to share with you, I will ask for permission then if given, I will post it.
I'm not sure how many posts I will make each week, month, etc.

Accepting requests.

Your newest weekly heart attack.
